Bayou La Batre Mayor Announces Launch of Website
Community Poised for Business

Bayou La Batre, Ala. – June 10, 2010 – Mayor of Bayou La Batre, Stan Wright, today announced the launch of the city’s website, www.visitbayoulabatre.com.  Amid the oil crisis, the city is open for business and chock full of human and natural resources.

“Although most people recognize us as the original home of ‘Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.’ from the movie Forrest Gump, families in Bayou La Batre have lived along these shores dating back to the 1700s.  We’ve survived hurricanes from Camille to Katrina, and we’ll survive this oil spill,” Bayou La Batre Mayor Stan Wright said.  “Our website will be a portal to the world to tell individuals about the many resources we have to offer, most importantly our people.”

The only incorporated area on the mainland of South Mobile County, Bayou La Batre is the economic engine for the surrounding unincorporated communities of Coden, Grand Bay, and Irvington.

“Bayou La Batre is like no other community.  We have a diverse population that is happy to earn an honest day’s wage working with our hands.  Our connection to the Gulf can be seen in our mainstay industries including commercial fishing, seafood processing, and shipbuilding,” said Mayor Wright.

On May 27, local and state officials broke ground on the latest industrial development, an eco-friendly seafood by-product processing facility that will ultimately provide products for commercial application to the fertilizer, poultry and pharmaceutical industries.

“You’ll visit us for our seafood,” Wright commented.  “But you’ll stay for our charm.”
